Nephrite is a Monoclinic Crystal structure.
Atoms forms three axes, all of them are unequal in length, none of them are right angles to each other. Its shape is three dimensional like a cube, but it has been skewed or inclined to one side making it oblique. All crystal faces are parallel to each other.The term jade is used to describe two distinct minerals — nephrite and jadeite. They may be similar in appearance, but belong to different mineralogical groups. Nephrite jade belongs to the amphibole group, and jadeite belongs to the pyroxene group.
Both are extremely tough and resistant to fracture such that they have been used for making blades since Neolithic times.Nephrite Jade is a 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale.
