Atlantisite Chunky Crystal Bracelet
Tasmanite or Atlantisite is a yellow green form of Serpentine with clearly defined embedded spots of pink to purple stichtite within the crystal found first in Tasmania, Australia.
It is very soft on the Moh's scale, the hardness of serpentine weighs in between 3-4, and Stichtite weighs in between 1.5 – 2 so you will see surface fractures on larger specimens and especially on tumbled specimens like beads.
Serpentine is composed of magnesium iron silicate hydroxide that belongs to the Kaolinite-Serpentine group of crystals.
Stichtite is composed of hydrated magnesium chromium carbonate hydroxide. Stichtite is a rare and unusual carbonate. It forms in mostly compact masses or micaceous aggregates and is in stark contrast to the majority of carbonates that form well shaped, large and abundant crystals. It is formed as an alteration product of chromite containing serpentine.
